Using the IPVM system to design your site.

Using the IPVM system to design your site.

The IPVM calculator is a fantastic tool for you to use when setting up a new site to ensure maximum coverage based on area and camera capabilities. This will be your guide to utilizing this tool.

Step 1:

Login into your IPVM and then click “Calculator” at the top of the screen

Step 2:

Click “New Project” in the top left corner.  Next, name your project.

Step 3:

Click “Change Location” and then enter the address of the site you are working on.

Step 4:

Click “More” in the top left corner and select Wall
Click on each corner of the building to place your walls in of the site's circumference.

Step 5:

Click on “Camera” in the top left corner.

Step 6:

In the column on the right, name your camera, and then Click “Select Model”.

From here, you can select your exact model of camera that you will using in this location.

Step 7:

Place the camera you are adding onto the map.
You can click and drag the Person icon to change the camera view.

A couple of notes with this:

  1. The Red line shows how far the IR from that camera will reach.
  2. When you hover your mouse over the area inside the camera view, it will show you the pixel density at that distance.  For analytics to perform properly we want to keep this above 15ppm, but will still function at 10 ppm if absolutely necessary
  3. You will notice as your mouse moves, the image on the right will change to give you an example of image clarity at that distance from the camera

Step 8:

Add the rest of your cameras in to complete your site.
You will notice when placing a PTZ camera, it will display a full circle around the camera to show where the camera could possibly look.
Also, if the camera has zoom, you can adjust the FOV of the camera by dragging one of the two points on the circle.

Step 9:

Part 1:
Now that you have created your camera layout, it is time to add in any other devices or wiring that will be done.
Select “Devices” in the top left corner.  From here add in your “Network Closet”; the area that your cameras will be wired to.

Part 2:

Once your network closet is placed, select “Draw Cabling to Device” from the right hand column.  Here, you can draw the wiring to each camera. Once done, it will show you the approximate length for each wire run.
Do this for each camera.

Step 10:

Once you have placed all of your devices and wiring, you are now done and ready to export this.  Select “Export” at the top of your screen.  From here you can export your site map in various formats.
We recommend exporting to PDF.

Once downloaded, open your file to view.
This will give you all of your camera information, its position, and example of its view at the distance you set, as well as the wire length.
