Thermal Analytics Troubleshooting

Thermal Analytics Troubleshooting

When setting up a Thermal Camera for guard service, a lot of the same standards still apply when it comes to best practices.  There are however a few new things that you must take into consideration.

1. Ambient temperature and Background

Since the camera is using thermal and cannot see the color of clothing, grass, etc., you have to take into consideration if your target will stand out against the background.
Example 1:

The background around this person is in a shaded area, making their body heat stand out against the background

Example 2:

The background around this person has been in the sunlight all day and is quite warm.  You can see how when using thermal, they blend in with the background.

2.  Distance to Target

This applies to all cameras, but thermal cameras are especially sensitive to this since they are naturally a lower resolution when compared to a standard IP camera.

Example 1:

Here we can see that the person is close enough to the camera that we can clearly make out arms, legs, head, etc.  We can clearly make this out to be a person, so analytics will function in this case

Example 2:

In this example, although the person does stand out from the background, they are far enough away that you are unable to make out any features that would stand out as "being a person".  In this case the analytics will not identify the person.
