Any ONVIF compliant device (Camera or NVR) can be added to our platform using the ONVIF option.
This is a great option for any devices we don't currently have a Plug and Play solution with.
Let's start by making sure we have everything we need.
1. Prepare your Devices
Make sure your Camera or NVR have power, are connected to a network and have the latest firmware
2. Ensure you have access to a computer plugged into the same router or network as your device
3. Make sure you are at the camera site
You will need to make changes directly to the Site Router to enable ONVIF connections
4. Have admin access to the router on site
Let's prepare your camera for port forwarding!
First, we are going to configure the Network settings of the camera
Log into your Camera using it's Local IP address
1. Make sure to use appropriate Gateway and DNS settings for your local network
2. Check your HTTP and RTSP port settings
3. We recommend configuring the camera to Static IP address otherwise the Port forwarding rule will be invalid if the camera is reassigned to a new local IP address by DHCP service
Every camera interface is going to look different but let's use a Uniview camera as an example:
Now that your camera is ready to go, let's configure the ports on your router
The exact procedure to create a port forwarding rule will depend on the model of your router and/or modem but we can go through the basics of what it will look like together
1. Log into your router
Your router's IP and login credentials should be on the router itself. Alternatively using IP Scanner you will be able to see the IP address.
2. Find the port forwarding option in your router web interface
This will normally appear under the firewall settings, but will be dependent on the router
Here is where we want to create the port forwarding rules!
You must add 2 rules per camera IP
1. To specify Public (sometimes called External) Ports
For this port you can use any port as long as it is unused currently
2. To specify Local (sometimes called Inbound or Private) Ports
For this port, make sure to use the RTSP port of the camera (default is 554 for the first rule) and the HTTP port of the camera for the second rule (default is 80)
**Make sure to select TCP and then UDP for the protocol (in some router this mode is called "Dual" for both rules) and provide the local IP address of the camera**
Set these very same rules now for UDP so there should be:
2 TCP and 2 UDP rules set up in total!
