How to Activate ONVIF on the Camera Itself

How to Activate ONVIF on the Camera Itself

For some cameras, a separate ONVIF user and ONVIF protocol have to be enabled for proper camera operation in our environment.

Cameras from Axis, Hikvision, and some other manufacturers DO require an extra step when the camera is configured for use with cloud monitoring services.
If the ONVIF services were not enabled on the camera you will see the following error in the Troubleshooting tab of the camera:

Even if the correct user name and password combination are used but ONVIF service is not configured on the camera this error will be shown.
To fix this:

1. enable ONVIF services and

2.create ONVIF user from the camera's native web interface.

For P&P cameras you can use the Generate link button to access the camera from anywhere. For cameras that were added using the ONVIF option use HTTP link and port that were used to add this camera. The exact procedure will depend on the camera model.
Typically ONVIF service can be found under the Security or Network Security menus of the camera.

For example on the Axis camera go to System and select the ONVIF menu. In the window that will appear click the Add button to create a new ONVIF user. You can use the same user name and password as you used to access the camera web interface. Make sure to create a user with an Administrator access level. Once the ONVIF user is created ONVIF services will be enabled. Use this user credentials in our Admin portal to add this camera.

For the older generation Axis camera to the System Options menu and select ONVIF option. Next, click on the Add button and create a new user. Make sure to create Administrator level user. This will enable ONVIF services on the camera. Use credentials for this user to add this camera in our Admin portal.

For Hikvision cameras go to the Network menu and select the Advanced Settings option. Click on the Integration Protocol tab and place a checkmark to Enable ONVIF. Next click the Add button and create a new user. You can use the same user name and password as you used when logging into the camera web interface. Make sure to select the Administrator as user Level. Click Save to store changes.
